 Administrator Samantha Power Speaks with Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher

Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher. Administrator Power congratulated the Under-Secretary-General on his appointment and expressed USAID’s gratitude for the steadfast humanitarian leadership of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and its continued advocacy to facilitate life-saving assistance for the world’s most vulnerable communities. Administrator Power emphasized the pivotal and irreplaceable role the Under-Secretary-General and OCHA play in addressing the increasingly complex challenges impacting the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Administrator Power and Under-Secretary-General Fletcher discussed the ongoing humanitarian situations in Sudan, Gaza, Yemen, and Syria. They committed to robust communication and coordination and pledged to work together to advocate for an international humanitarian system that is well staffed and resourced to respond to the increase in complex and protracted crises around the world.
